Letter: Clarification on post office flag

Published 10:00 pm Sunday, November 26, 2017

In response to Mr. Cady’s observation of the flag at the Albert Lea post office last week. While no one disagrees with his views, and certainly not anyone working at the post office, there were some issues pertaining to the situation of said flag.

When the rope broke, it caused a spring clamp to become stuck in the pulley. It was hoped that it would come loose by handling the rope from the ground and with the aid of the wind. Instead, the rope jumped the pulley and became lodged even more. Everything was tried from the individuals at the post office.

Without the aid of the Albert Lea Fire Department, it would have taken much longer to get the flag down and a new one up.

A big shout out to the fire department and its members! We are very grateful for their help. We certainly wish the matter could have been handled sooner. As always, please feel free to come in or call with questions concerning the post office. The pride for the flag is just as strong for those at the post office as anyone else.
