Sheryl’s family requests you wear purple clothing, as it was her favorite color. Also, if you would bring a “treasure” to share at bingo, a written memory for the scrapbook and/or a picture the family hasn’t seen, it would be much appreciated. There will be food, bingo (her favorite), a DJ and fun. Interment will be in Emmons Cemetery after her gift has been completed. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is assisting the family.

Sheryl Marie was born in Albert Lea, the eldest child of 11 children born to Paul and Rose Marie (Armstrong) Halvorsen. She was raised on the farm outside of Emmons, and attended country school and later graduated from Kiester High school, the class of 1970. Sheryl married Kirk Fure in 1971 and the couple moved to Elburn, Illinois. This union was blessed with Chad, Jeremy and Shana. Kirk and Sheryl later divorced and Sheryl and the kids returned to Kiester, where she remained until her passing. Sheryl attended college in Austin and worked tirelessly as a single mother to become a registered nurse. She obtained her degree and worked nights at Naeve Hospital, now Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Les, for over 32 years. Her kind, compassionate heart helped so many.

Sheryl was involved in her community throughout the years by being a member of Jaycees and First Lutheran Church. She and the kids enjoyed delivering May Day baskets and she loved being the Easter bunny for many years. Sheryl also helped with activities and fundraisers in Kiester.

Sheryl was later married to Charles “Chuck” Matson until his passing in 2009. Sheryl enjoyed treasure hunting; bingo with daughter, Shana; watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, “Jeopardy!” and “Wheel of Fortune” on TV. She enjoyed happy hour with her cousin, Julie Elvebak.

She is survived by her children Chad Fure (Leah Wittmer) of Hayward, Jeremy Fure of Kiester and Shana (husband, Scott) Iverson of Albert Lea; grandchildren Elisha, Amanda, Isaiah and Cameron Iverson and Evan and Ava Fure; six great-grandchildren, Skyler, Riley and Destiney Staloch, Savanna and Mason Iverson, and Uriah O’Reilly; former husband, Kirk (Lesia) Fure, of Kiester; siblings Dawn (Doug) Dean, Suzanne Peterson, Lynn Halvorsen, Mary Robinson, Linda (Marty) Hovland, Brenda Finken, Paula Halvorsen and Josh (Jenny) Halvorsen; several nieces, nephews and friends; and a special cousin and friends Julie Elvebak, Roger Oldfather and Patty Meyer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chuck Matson; two brothers, Todd and Kent; best friend, Cathy Braun; her first love, Randy Braund; brother-in-law, Michael Finken; nephew, Danny Halvorsen; and Gordy Meyer.

Rest in peace, Sheryl. Your shift is over; your work is done. Your skill, kindness and compassion will never be forgotten by your children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
