50 years ago: 1967

•The Albert Lea High School hockey team defeated Shattuck 9-2 for their second win. Scoring goals for the Tigers were Steve Appel (3), Gary Hillman (3), Gary Barb (2) and Chuck Pappas (1).

•John Miller scored 20 points and Gary Young had 17 to lead the Freeborn High School basketball team to a 64-56 win over New Richland. Tom Bergnar scored 25 points for the Cardinals.

•In an Albert Lea YMCA Basketball League game Peoples Savings Loan defeated Berglunds Sporting Goods 68-55. Mike Young scored 22 points and Gary Forsythe had 18 for Peoples and Berglunds was led by Tom Allen with 14 and Dan Gerenz with 12.

•The Alden High School basketball team improved their season record to 5-0 after defeating Lyle 88-51. Al Lindemann scored 23 points, Ron Peterson had 20 and Glen Mathiason had 16 for the Blackhawks.

25 years ago: 1992

•The ALHS boys’ hockey opened their season with a 9-1 win against Rochester Lourdes. Scoring goals for the Tigers were Matt Stay (3), Brandon Thomas (2), Travis Brua (2), Reid Olson (1) and Kris Ellsworth (1).

•The Glenville-Emmons High School basketball team evened their season record to 1-1 after defeating Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton 75-72. John Van Beek led the Wolverines with 33 points.

•The ALHS boys’ swimming and diving team defeated Mason City 102-66. First place finishers for the Tigers were Nat Olson (50-yard freestyle), Garth Saul (diving), Nate Saul (100 yard-butterfly) and Jay Jerdee (100-yard freestyle).

•The ALHS basketball team lost its third straight game after losing to Duluth East 53-38. Paul Kenis led the Tigers with 17 points.

10 years ago: 2007

•The ALHS dance team won a first place trophy in the AA High Kick Competition at the Lakeville Holiday Classic.

•Kate Hartman scored 16 points and Lauren Hartman had 13 for the Northwood-Kensett girls basketball team in their 47-31 victory over North Iowa.

•The ALHS girls defeated Mankato East 36-27 in a Big Nine Conference basketball game. Katie Schou scored 14 points and Abbey Arends had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Tigers.
