Letter: Feehan engages with respect

Dan Feehan is campaigning to represent southern Minnesota in the U.S. Congress. I believe that Mr. Feehan gives us an opportunity to elect a U.S. representative that is uniquely qualified to represent us, and to help move our country past partisan politics and toward a government that works for us.
Mr. Feehan was born in Red Wing, served two Army combat tours in Iraq, served in the White House, the Pentagon and has also been a public school teacher. I’ve gotten to know Dan over the last three months, and the first word I would use to describe him is respectful. I think most of us agree that our national political conversation has become too disrespectful on both sides of the aisle. Mr. Feehan’s eagerness to listen and engage with respect is one of the big reasons I am supporting him.
As a small business owner who has watched health insurance costs continue to increase dramatically under the Affordable Care Act I can testify to the failure of governmental solutions imposed by a single party. I look at the current single-party tax legislation in Congress (which will add $1.3 to $1.5 billion to our national debt) and expect a similar failure.
Our government and our country works best when intelligent, hard-working and respectful people develop bi-partisan solutions to problems such as health care, tax reform and immigration. I believe Dan Feehan is exactly the kind of leader we need to represent us, to create bi-partisan solutions and to move our country forward.
