Funeral services for Marvin F. Mathwig, 90, of Albert Lea will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Theodore Catholic Church. The Rev. Kurt Farrell will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by local servicemen’s organizations. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be at Lake Belt Cemetery in Ceylon. Marvin died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, at Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea.
Marvin F. Mathwig was born June 18, 1927, in Ceylon, the son of Harry and Anna (Schnell) Mathwig. He grew up in Dunnell. He attended country school and graduated from high school in Sherburn. Marvin enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945 and was honorably discharged in July 1946. On December 17, 1988, he was united in marriage to Marian Springer at the Little Brown Church. He worked as an engineer/custodian for Austin Public Schools until his retirement. Marvin was a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post No. 404 in Alden. He was a breeder, owner and exhibitor of the National Sweepstakes Champions of dogs in St. Charles, Missouri.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Marian; and two nieces and two nephews.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents and twin brother.
