50 years ago: 1968

• Tom Belshan scored 35 points and Clark Cipra 18 to lead Glenville High School to an 80-61 basketball victory over LeRoy.

• The Albert Lea High School basketball team defeated Northfield 77-73 for its third win in a row. The Tigers had balanced scoring with four starters in double-figure scoring. Jay Gustafson scored 20 points, Greg Sainsbury 15, Harold Schuhmacher 14 and Mike Gregerson 13.

• The Alden High School basketball team remained in first place in the Border League with a 7-0 record with a 76-59 win against Freeborn. The BlackHawks were led by Ron Peterson’s 19 points and Al Lindeman and Keith Van Deer with 18 points. Alden had a 11-0 season mark.

• Blooming Prairie defeated Ellendale 51-44. Greg Hansen scored 22 points for Blooming Prairie.   

25 years ago: 1993

• Glenville-Emmons raised its season record to 8-2 after defeating Randolph, 51-44. John VanBeek scored 30 points for the Wolverines.

• Jayson Newman scored 27 points and Brian Schultz 14 for Northwood-Kensett in its 71-60 basketball win over West Hancock.

• The ALHS wrestling team defeated Austin, 34-28. Lupe Reyes pinned his opponent at 152 pounds for the Tigers.

• Brandon Thomas scored a hat trick for the ALHS boys’ hockey team in its 4-2 victory over Faribault.

• In girls’ basketball Bricelyn defeated Alden-Conger, 63-57. The Braves were led by Jane Passer with 14 points, Laurie Petersen with 13, Julie Zebro 11 and Laura Otteson 10. Ann Brandt and Amanda Lindeman each had 12 points for the Knights.

10 years ago: 2008

• The ALHS girls’ hockey team shut out Mankato East, 9-0. Scoring goals for the Tigers were Jenna Christensen and Lauren Klick with two; and Abby Leach, Madi Passingham, Amy Galkstetler, Nicole Wilson and Jacqui Jepson one goal each. The Tigers Big Nine Conference record was 8-4 and their season record was 13-5.

•The Alden-Conger boys’ basketball team won its third game in a row after defeating Martin Luther, 73-54. The Knights were led by Paul Little with 16 points and Sam Hallman and Mitchell Kleinschrodt with 12 points each.

•Kate Hartman scored 24 points and Courtney Meyer 17 for Northwood-Kensett in its 57-46 victory over West Hancock.
