Freeborn-Mower Cooperative Services and Heartland Power Cooperative have asked their members to wait until 8 p.m. today before using any unnecessary electric power.
According to a news release, today is a peak alert day due to high demands for electricity caused by cold temperatures and wind chill in the regional power market. People are asked to avoid the use of appliances and any unnecessary electric usage.
Waiting until eight will help keep electricity costs low, the release stated.
