Hazel Martinson, 1933-2017

Funeral services for Hazel D. Martinson, 84, of Glenville, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in Glenville. The Rev. Nancy Hansen will officiate. Burial will be at First Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services at the church. Hazel died peacefully Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, at her home.

Hazel Martinson

Hazel Delores Martinson was born on April 21, 1933, in Albert Lea, the daughter of Clarence and Clara (Neist) Jacobson. She graduated from Albert Lea High School and was a lifelong resident of Freeborn County. On Jan. 4, 1953, Hazel was united in marriage to E. Gordon Martinson at East Freeborn Lutheran Church. Hazel was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with all her family and many friends. She, along with Gordon, built their plumbing business in Glenville. Hazel and Gordon spent many winters in Mesa, Arizona, and summers at their summer home near Park Rapids. The couple traveled to Norway and several other European countries. Hazel was secretary for the city of Glenville for several years and a member of First Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband, E. Gordon Martinson; children Debbie (Kent) Sauke, Brad (Pat) Martinson and Dennis Martinson; grandchildren Nicholas (Brandi) Sauke, Klint (Tracey) Sauke, Leif Martinson (Ashley Abbe), Kelsey Martinson and Donavon Martinson; great-grandchildren Aidan and Brittyn Sauke; and brothers-in-law Lowell Olson and John Hurla.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister at birth and sisters Clarice Olson and Doris Hurla.
