An Albert Lea woman who was driving drunk during a crash that injured another person last May was placed on probation for two years Thursday in Freeborn County District Court.

Ashley Ysabelle Lopez

Ashley Ysabelle Lopez, 31, was sentenced after she pleaded guilty to gross misdemeanor criminal vehicular operation in November. One year of her probationary period is supervised, while another is unsupervised.

Judge Ross Leuning ordered Lopez remain law abiding, have no alcohol or controlled substance use or possession with the exception of prescribed medications, submit to random testing, not enter bars or liquor establishments, attend the Mothers Against Drunk Driving impact panel and follow conditions set in the agreement. Lopez was sentenced to 30 days of electronic home monitoring.

Court documents state Lopez was charged after an Albert Lea police officer responded to a report of a vehicle in a ditch May 12 near the intersection of Minnesota Highway 13 and Sunset Street. Upon arriving, the officer reportedly saw a female in a black Volkswagen who had suffered a laceration over her right eye in a crash with a Lincoln Navigator that Lopez later admitted driving. The female was taken to the emergency room.

Lopez had a .163 blood-alcohol content in a preliminary breath test, and one of the passengers in her vehicle was reportedly under the age of 16.

Lopez was also charged with third-degree driving while intoxicated, but that charge was dismissed in November.
