An Albert Lea man who allegedly threatened a woman he knew with what she believed to be a gun Monday was charged with three felonies the following day in Freeborn County District Court.
Jamie Duane Mead, 30, is charged with terroristic threats, second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and domestic assault by strangulation.
Court documents state Mead was charged after officers were dispatched at approximately 11:16 p.m. Monday to the area of Broadway Avenue and East Seventh Street on a report of a possible domestic incident.
Upon arriving, officers met the alleged victim, who was described as crying and visibly shaken. She and Mead had gotten into an argument while in a vehicle, with him at one point threatening to throw her out of the vehicle and shoot her.
Mead allegedly punched her three to four times in the head and face, grabbing her neck in a headlock and strangling her. The alleged victim reportedly had visible marks on her neck, which she said came from her trying to get Mead’s arm from her neck.
Court documents state Mead allegedly reached in a bag between seats, grabbing what the alleged victim thought was a gun and holding it to his side, causing the alleged victim to believe she would be shot.
Mead reportedly exited the vehicle, came to passenger’s side and yelled at her, calling her names.
A black firearm with a wood grip was found in a bag between the seats, court documents state, later identified as a metal, realistic airsoft gun.
Judge Steven Schwab set conditional bail at $50,000, contingent on Mead not possessing firearms or dangerous weapons, signing a waiver of extradition and following other court requirements. As of Tuesday afternoon, Mead was in custody.
Mead is next scheduled to appear March 8.
