High-risk offender charged with no-contact order violations

An Albert Lea Level 3 sex offender was charged with 17 gross misdemeanor domestic abuse no-contact order violations Friday in Freeborn County District Court.

Cody Padraic Trott, 27, was charged Friday, less than one month after he was charged with felony domestic assault by strangulation, felony threats of violence, felony unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, gross misdemeanor fifth-degree controlled substance possession and gross misdemeanor domestic assault after he allegedly strangled someone he knew.

His first appearance on the new charge was Monday.

Court documents state Trott was charged with the no-contact order violations after an Albert Lea police officer was informed the evening of Jan. 21 the alleged victim was in the visitation area of the Freeborn County Law Enforcement Center visiting Trott, despite there being a no-contact order in place.

An Albert Lea detective reportedly downloaded 17 videos of suspected contact between Trott and the alleged victim.

Judge Steven Schwab set conditional bail for Trott at $15,000, contingent on him not assaulting anyone, having no alcohol or controlled substance use and following other requirements. His next court appearance is scheduled Feb. 15.

In the other file, Trott has a contested omnibus hearing Wednesday.

As of Monday afternoon, Trott was in custody.
