Lake Mills closes out tournament run

Saturday marked the final day of the Iowa high school state wrestling tournament, in which three members of the Lake Mills wrestling team were still fighting for their places.

Sophomore Tyler Helgeson started the day in the consolation semifinals at 120 pounds. Helgeson was beat in a 5-0 decision, which put him into the fifth-place match. He would end up getting pinned in the second period, finishing in sixth place and with a season record of 43-13.

Senior Gabe Irons was up next in the consolation semis. Irons dominated his first opponent, gaining a pinfall at the 26-second mark. He would then wrestle in the third-place match, in which he beat his opponent 8-4, finishing in third at 195 and with a season record of 57-5.

Freshman Jack Ramaker took seventh place at 106 pounds by winning his only match of the day, 3-0. Ramaker finishes the season with a 50-16 record.

The Bulldogs finished with 32.5 team points, earning them 18th place out of more than 80 teams that participated in Class 1A.
