Letter: Organization supports universal health care in Minnesota
Published 8:59 pm Tuesday, February 13, 2018
Here are three health care related stories from people who live in Fairmont. Recently, one friend’s physician gave him a month’s supply of Invokana to try (a type of diabetes medication). When he went to get the next month’s prescription, his copay cost was $180. The next story is also about a person with diabetes. He usually purchased (and needs) a three month’s quantity of the drugs Humalog and Lantus. His cost: $200. Overnight the copay cost doubled to — $400. Finally, a friend went to an appointment at the Mayo Clinic for serious digestive issues. The doctor prescribed Anucort HC. His insurance refused to cover the cost of the medicine. My friend paid $300. Health Care for All Minnesota is a statewide grass roots organization that has one goal: to stop the cruel and senseless financial burdens placed on people daily by the current health care system as exemplified in these stories. HCAMN members work to support legislation that will put people over company profits. No insurance company will dictate arbitrary price increases. HCAMN supports universal health care coverage for everyone with no copays and no deductibles. Monthly meetings of the Martin County chapter of HCAMN are at the local library on the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m..
Next meeting: March 5.
