Scottish glassmaker says company copied design

MINNEAPOLIS — While some people were toasting International Scotch Day on Thursday, a Minnesota company that makes whiskey-themed products was being served with a lawsuit asking them to lower their glasses.
Scottish glassmaker Glencairn is accusing Chaska-based Sipdark of copying its design on an oak whiskey glass. The federal suit seeks unspecified damages and asks a judge to order Sipdark to stop selling the wood glasses.
The Glencairn glass is billed by retail outlets — and by Sipdark — as the “official whisky glass.” The glass is dedicated to single malt whiskey.
The suit alleges trademark infringement and says a promotional video by Sipdark shows that the Minnesota company intended to make an exact replica of the Glencairn glass.
A message left at a phone number listed for Sipdark was not returned.
