- First grade students at Sibley Elementary have been learning how to be mindful in the classroom and throughout their school day by practicing mindfulness. Mindfulness is defined as a moment-to-moment awareness of one’s experience when the mind is fully attending to what’s happening, to what they are doing and to the space they’re moving through. Students are able to practice self-regulation, focusing their attention and awareness in order to foster their mental well being. During mindfulness activities students are focusing on calmness, clarity and concentration. Research shows positive effects on mental health to reduce stress and their ability to regulate their emotions to show compassion and empathy towards others. Provided
