50 years ago: 1968

• Steve Erickson of the Albert Lea High School boys’ golf team was medalist with a 73 in a 320-340 win over Fairmont. Other scores for the Tigers were Mike Bennet with an 82, Dan Morley with 88 and Mike Hanson with 94.

• The ALHS baseball team defeated Blue Earth 8-3 to remain undefeated at 4-0. Winning pitcher was Larry Brandt. Gerald Walcholz had three hits and drove in two runs.

• In Border League baseball, Emmons defeated Frost 9-5. Paul Lair was the winning pitcher for the Eagles and Tom Bieiland had three hits.

• The Minnesota Twins improved to 7-2 after defeating the New York Yankees 5-2. Rod Carew was 4-4 for the Twins. 

25 years ago: 1993

• Jill Anderson pitched a no-hitter and had 19 strikeouts for the NRHEG softball team in its 6-1 victory over Glenville-Emmons.

• The ALHS boys’ tennis team defeated Mankato West 4-3 for its first win of the season. The Tigers winners in singles were Dean Hanson at No. 1 and Tilo Schrober at No. 2. In doubles, Eric Johnson and Jake Veldman won at No. 1 and Henrick Larsson and Mike Hamsund at No. 2.

• Julie Zebro singled in the winning run in the seventh inning with the bases loaded for United South Central in its 3-2 win over Alden-Conger. Kristen Maslakon was the winning pitcher for the Rebels.

10 years ago: 2008

• Dezeray Jacobs threw a no-hitter for the ALHS softball team in its 2-0 win over Faribault. Jenna Christianson had two hits and drove in the two runs for the Tigers. 

• Dakota Tracy also threw a no-hitter and had 13 strikeouts for the NRHEG baseball team in its 11-0 win over Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton. Payden Peterson had three hits for the Panthers.

• The Lake Mills boys’ golf team won a triangular meet with 167 points. West Hancock was second with 202 and North Iowa was third with 226 points. Scores for the Bulldogs were A.J. Appel with 39, Drew Appel with 41, Tim Brandt with 41 and Alex Brandt with 43.

• The G-E baseball team raised its season record to 4-0 with a 6-4 win over Mabel-Canton. Zach Nelson and Logan Hansen each had hits for the Wolverines.
