One person was injured Thursday evening in a two-vehicle crash in Albert Lea.

Anneliese Manuela Martinez was taken by Gold Cross Ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea with an injury deemed not life-threatening.

A 2012 Dodge Charger driven by Stephani Ann Terry, 38, of Albert Lea and a 2001 Toyota Highlander driven by Carey Alyson Schmidt, 64, of Albert Lea were driving north on Bridge Avenue, according to Albert Lea police. The Highlander was waiting to turn west on Glenview Drive when the Charger struck the back of the vehicle, according to police. Martinez was a passenger in the Charger.

Terry said she did not see Schmidt stopped until the car’s sensor alerted her to the vehicle. She said she pressed the brakes but struck the Highlander. Terry was not taken to the hospital.

A witness reportedly said the Charger quickly approached the Highlander and did not start breaking until soon before the crash.

The collision was reported at 6:29 p.m. at the intersection of Bridge Avenue and Glenview Drive.

Schmidt and the three passengers in the Highlander — Alexander Bernard Schmidt, 12; Hunter James Schmidt, 10; and Zaden Gage Schmidt, 7 — were not injured in the crash.

No citations were issued, and alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Airbags in the Charger deployed.
