5 things to do this weekend

Published 8:09 pm Wednesday, May 30, 2018

1. Lakers baseball game

Take yourself out to the ballgame Friday night as the Albert Lea Lakers take on the Bancroft Bandits at Hayek Field. The game will be played in memorial to Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Randy Kehr, who died in November. The game starts at 7:05 p.m.

2. A John Denver tribute

Whether you’re from out in the country, as far off as West Virginia or even have ties to Shanghai, there’s a John Denver song for that. Country Roads — The Music of John Denver is bringing it to you at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. The show will include some of Denver’s hits as performed by Dennis Curley and a six-piece backing band.

3. Summer kickoff and fundraiser

It’s early summer, and that can only mean one thing: hot dog season. That, or pork loins, or chicken breasts. They’re all on the menu for the fundraiser at Three Oak Vineyards and Winery. The event will include a meal and live music by Flashback Band. Proceeds go to Trinity Lutheran and Central Freeborn churches for youth to attend the ELCA’s National Youth Gathering in Texas. Bring your own chairs (to the fundraiser, not to Texas).

4. Matinee music in Manchester

It’s all on the table at Bend in the Road in Manchester, which has invited back Luke Hendrickson to perform for its music matinee Saturday series. Hendrickson is a singer-songwriter who performs songs from all genres. He will perform from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday.

5. Live music at the Interchange

After a reschedule, the Interchange is moving forward with live music from Jeff Lackey on Friday night. You may be served coffee. You may be served wine. You may be served food. You will definitely be served music. Lackey starts at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Interchange.
