Albert Lea bowler wins youth tourney, bowls first 300 game
Albert Lea bowler Caden Reichl took part in the USBC’s State Storm Tournament and the Pepsi Youth Championships on May 6 at the Drkula’s 32 Bowl in Inver Grove Heights.
Reichl took first place in the Storm Tournament, bowling his first ever 300 game in his 819 series. He would also take second place in the Pepsi Tournament with a two-series score of 1,385.
Each tournament entailed two three-game series with all scores being added at the end. The Storm Tournament used handicaps – the Pepsi tournament did not.
After winning third place and a $230 scholarship at the Storm Tournament in the U15 division one year ago, Reichl moved on to the U20 division to face 50 other bowlers in the finals.
In the first series Reichl bowled games of 251, 268 and the elusive 300 game to total the 819 series. The second series saw games of 184, 220 and 195 and a handicap of 22 added to each series, bringing his tournament total to 1,418 landing his in first place. Reichl also received commemorative rings for his 300 game and 800+ series.
The Pepsi Youth Tournament took place later that same day, and Reichl was able to take second place in the U20 division.
Last year, Reichl won the tournament in the U15 division, winning a $401 scholarship.
This tournament started with 176 bowlers at the district tournament and was whittled down to just 43 for the finals.
His first series included games of 222, 237 and 229, with his second series being 226, 213 and 258, landing him with a total of 1,358 for the tournament.
