Alden baseball remained unbeaten 50 years ago

50 years ago: 1968

•The Alden High School baseball team defeated Emmons 1-0 and remained undefeated in the Border League with a 5-0 mark and a season record of 7-0. Winning pitcher Al Lindeman threw a one-hitter and had 17 strikeouts.

•In a triangular track meet, Wells scored 158 points, Winnebago 50.5 and Ellendale 35.5. First place finishes for the Wildcats were Tom Quinn in the discus, Charlie Yokiel in the shotput and Tom Wetzel in both the high and low hurdles.

•The Albert Lea High School baseball team won its seventh game of the season with a 7-1 victory over Wells. Larry Brandt was the winning pitcher and Ron Brackey had two hits.

25 years ago: 1993

•The ALHS softball team split a doubleheader with Winona, winning the first game 5-0 and losing the second game 7-4. In the first game, Julie Mullenbach had three hits and Melanie Morfit added two more. Natalir Mattson and Kim Otterson each hit two-run doubles. Kim Otterson had two hits in the second game.

•Mankato West scored 72 points, Winona 49 and ALHS 29 in a triangular track meet. Winning events for the Tigers were Dusty Gonzales in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles and the long jump, Adam Conn in the 100 yard-dash and Scott Conn in the high jump.

•Pitcher Greg Schultz had 15 strikeouts and Brent Krueger had three hits for the NRHEG baseball team in its 10-4 win over Glenville-Emmons.

10 years ago: 2008

•United South Central raised its Gopher Conference record to 5-1 with a 13-2 win over Medford. Andrew Penning was the winning pitcher for the Rebels, Kevin George had two hits and five RBI’s and Jake Bonsack also had two hits.

•The Glenville-Emmons girls’ golf team defeated Mabel-Canton 270-314. Scores for the Wolverines were Jenny Johnson (53) (medalist), Brianna Nelson (69), Reina Saltou (73) and April Davies (75).

•The Alden-Conger baseball team defeated Truman 5-2 behind Matt Bremseth’s pitching and Mitchell Kleinschrodt’s five stolen bases.
