50 years ago: 1968

• The Albert Lea High School baseball team raised its Big Nine Conference record to 5-0 after defeating the Austin Packers, 2-1. Larry Brandt was the winning pitcher and Gerald Walcholz had two hits for the Tigers.

• In a triangular track meet ALHS finished in first place with 73 1/2 points over Mankato with 70 1/2 and Rochester John Marshall with 39. The Tiger’s distance medley team of Ted Naegeli, Ralph Vinkler, Shannon McCoul and Jim Parry set an ALHS record. Tom Halvorson won the two mile run.

• The Glenville High School baseball team defeated Lyle 11-1 and improved its Southland Conference record to 3-1 and its season mark to 5-2. Steve Severtson hit a grand slam homer for the Trojans.

• The ALHS boys’ golf team defeated Mankato 312-328. Scores for the Tigers were Steve Erickson (77), John Carnahan (78), Dan Morley (78) and Steve Nelson (79).

25 years ago: 1993

• Natalie Mattson threw a no-hitter for the ALHS softball team in its 5-0 win over Rochester Mayo. Kim Otterson and Melanie Morfitt each had two hits for Albert Lea.

• Donna Boom with a 92 led the ALHS girls’ golf team to a 398-408 victory over Austin. The other scores for the Tigers were Jody Mack (98), Christie Strecker (101) and Lisa Dombroske (107).

• NRHEG was victorious over Blooming Prairie 196-221 in a girls’ golf match. Scores for the Panthers were Linsey Supalia (46), Jodie Rud and Janelle Timmerman (49) and Emily Strenge (52).

• In girls softball Glenville-Emmons defeated Bethlehem Academy 13-5. Amber Tovar was the winning pitcher and Kim Lair had two hits for the Wolverines.

10 years ago: 2008

• The NRHEG baseball team defeated Blooming Prairie 7-1 behind the one-hit pitching and 13 strikeouts by Dakota Tracy. Alex Wagner was 4-4 with three RBI’s.

• The ALHS boys’ golf team defeated Northfield 342-348. Scores for the Tigers were Grant Stadheim (79), Mike Falk (86), Cody Anderson (87) and Tyler Haaland (90).

• NRHEG defeated Hayfield 171-181 in boys’ golf. Jon Kormann had a 42 and Dahlen Ferber, Josh Beatty and Seth Hanson each scored 43.
