50 years ago: 1968

•Steve Erickson threw a two-hitter for the Albert Lea High School baseball team in its 3-1 victory over Owatonna. The Tigers clinched a tie for the Big Nine Conference title with the win. Ron Brackey had two hits for the Tigers. 

•In Church League softball Grace Lutheran defeated Mansfield 4-0 behind the 15 strike outs of pitcher Ron Mathews. Kent Dugstad had two hits for Grace.

•Alden defeated Ellendale 2-1 in a first round baseball game in the West Sub-District. Al Lindeman was the winning pitcher.

•Clark Cipra pitched a no-hitter for Glenville in its 12-0 baseball win over LeRoy. Bill Severson hit a three-run home run and Dave Lawson a two-run homer for the Wolverines.

 

25 years ago: 1993

•The ALHS boys’ tennis team raised its Big Nine Conference record to 5-3 after defeating Austin 4-3. Singles winners for the Tigers were Tilo Sehuber at No. 2, Nate Bibus at No. 3 and Rick Nygaard at No. 4. Winning in doubles was Mike Hench and Dave Qual at No. 3. 

•Marci Newman threw a one-hitter for the Alden-Conger softball team in its 8-3 win against Mankato Loyola. Amy Thomas had three hits and JoDell Bendickson had a triple and a double for the Knights.

•United South Central scored 135 points to second place Fairmont’s 122 to win the South Central Conference Track Meet. First place finishers for the Rebels were Randy Skellenger in the 800 and 1600 meter runs, Chris Hassing in the 3,000 meter run and Jason Steniel in the Pole Vault.

 

10 years ago: 2008

•In the play-in-game in Section 2A A-C defeated Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, 10-0. Lucas Kleinschrodt and Mitchell Kleinschrodt each had four hits and scored three runs.

•In the first softball game of the season, Lake Mills defeated North Central Kossuth, 9-0. Jessica Lee was the winning pitcher and Sabrina Roll had three hits for the Bulldogs.

•Named to the Big Nine All-Conference baseball team from ALHS was Casey Woodside. Receiving honorable mention were Anthoney Tippett and Logan Kortan. Named to the Big Nine All-Conference softball team from ALHS were Jenna Christensen and Lauren Klick.
