Tigers take third at tournament

The Albert Lea girls’ golf team traveled to Northern Hills Golf Course in Rochester to compete in the Big Nine Conference tournament Monday morning. As a team, the Tigers would take third place out of 12 teams overall with a score of 377, falling to only Northfield (353) and Red Wing (351).

Natalie Nafzger was also named as an All-Conference selection, finishing the season in ninth place in season scoring average. Nafzger would card a 94 at the conference meet, tying with Maddy Carstens for second-best on the team.

Emma Loch led the Tigers with a round of 93; Lexie Simon recorded a 97, Charley Fleek a 99 and Emma Grossman a 112.

“We still need to cut about 10 strokes off that score to confidently look at the section tourney,” said head coach Shawn Riebe. “We definitely have it in us, but have to find 18 holes of consistency for two days. If we do that, we go to state.”

The Tigers will play in the section tournament May 29 at New Prague Golf Course.
