Walters man gets probation in domestic assault

A Walters man who assaulted a woman he knew last October was placed on probation for two years Thursday in Freeborn County District Court.

Victor Andreas Stafne, 29, was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor domestic assault in February. He was given a 90-day jail sentence. Of that, 83 days were stayed, and he was given credit for seven days served.

Judge Steven Schwab ordered Stafne not possess or use alcohol or controlled substances, submit to random testing, complete an educational assessment/program, not threaten violence and follow other requirements while on probation.

A domestic abuse no-contact order was issued.

Court documents state Stafne was charged after a deputy responded to a report of a domestic assault early in the morning of Oct. 1 at an address in Freeborn.

The victim had blood on her and a long scratch from her neck to her chin, court documents state.

Stafne and the victim showed signs of alcohol consumption.

Stafne was charged with domestic assault by strangulation, but that charge was dismissed.

In a separate file, Stafne was placed on probation for two years for misdemeanor harassment restraining order violation.
