Albert Lea wrestler Zach Glazier announced Wednesday morning that he has committed to wrestle at the University of Iowa.

Glazier, who will be entering his senior year of high school, is coming off a junior campaign in which he won the state championship at 170 pounds. He has placed at the state tournament on three other occasions, as well. As an eighth-grader he placed third at 106 pounds; as a freshman he placed fourth at 126 pounds and as a sophomore he place second at 152 pounds.

Glazier talked about the factors that led to his choosing Iowa.

“I chose Iowa because that’s where I feel most at home,” he said. “Every time I’m in Iowa City, I get the gut feeling that it’s where I want to be. Ever since I was little I’ve wanted to be a Hawkeye and wrestle in front of the Iowa fans at Carver Hawkeye Arena.”

Although he has always wanted to go to Iowa, he said he just recently came to the full conclusion that he was ready to make the decision official.

As a lifelong fan of the Hawkeyes, Glazier talked about what it’s like for him to realize one of the goals he has worked so hard to achieve.

“It (means) a lot for me to be able to wrestle for Iowa,” he said. “To be able to put on a black and gold singlet and wrestle in Carver is something special and unique. I’m very thankful to have the opportunity to wrestle for such a great program and I see it as a testament to where hard work can get you.”

According to theguillotine.com, Glazier is projected to wrestle at 184 pounds for the Hawkeyes.
