50 years ago: 1968

• In the Region 2 Track Meet, Austin had 34 points, ALHS 28 and Rochester John Marshall 25. The Tigers had four second-place finishes, Dave VandeBrake in the 880-yard run, Bob Veldman in the discus, Dennis Tuberty in the pole vault and Tim Peterson in the mile run and they advanced to the Minnesota State Track and Field Tournament.

• In State Line Baseball League games, Alden shut out Lake Mills 4-0, behind 16 strikeouts by winning pitcher Al Lindeman. In a second game Hayward defeated Glenville 11-9. Rick Esse was the winning pitcher and Bruce Olson, Jim Skaar and Don Westland each had two hits. Bill Severtson had three hits for Glenville.

• Hartland defeated Mansfield 4-2 in Church League softball. Ken Sibilrud was the winning pitcher and Brad Bartness had two hits.

25 years ago: 1993

• In the opening round of Section 1AA baseball tournament, ALHS defeated Apple Valley, 6-5. Tom Drasher pitched the win and Trent Struck and Jay Kammerer each had two hits for the Tigers.

• USC defeated Glenville-Emmons 12-3 in a first round baseball game in Section 2A. Mark Ricke had three hits and three RBI’s for the Rebels and Chris Bushlack pitched the win.

• In Section 2A  Sub-Section 1A, United South Central defeated NRHEG 418 – 431 in girls golf. Scores for the Rebels were Melanie (93), Misty Nelson and Pepper Hagen (100) and Maren Sand and Jenny Miller (125). The Panthers were led by Jodi Rud (104).

10 years ago: 2008

• The Minnesota Lynx opened their new league season with a record of 3-0 after defeating the Chicago Sky 75-69. Seimone Augustus scored 19 points, Anna DeForge and Charde Houston 15 for the Lynx.

• The Lake Mills girls’ softball team improved to 3-1 after defeating SCMT 12-2. Jessica Lee picked up the win and Sammy Nelson had two hits and six RBI’s for the Bulldogs.

• The Albert Lea Colonels won their first game of the season when they defeated the Austin River Dawgs 17-15. Ryan Wangen had four hits for the Colonels.

• Vern Strand of Albert Lea had a hole-in-one on the 8th hole, a 144-yard and par 3 hole, at Green Lea Golf Course.
