50 years ago: 1968

• Glenville defeated Kiester-Bricelyn 9-8 in a State Line amateur baseball game. Glenville was led by Andy Knudson with four hits and Dick Humphrey’s three-run home run. 

Pat Meyer had three hits for Kiester-Bricelyn.

• In Church League fast pitch softball, Emmons Lutheran defeated Mansfield 14-2 and raised its league record to 4-1. Dave Christenson threw a three hitter for Emmons.

• The Cabin Bar defeated Coast to Coast 14-2 in the Albert Lea women’s fast pitch league. Elaine Carlson, Mary Anderson, Sharon Westergaard and Marlene Belshan each had two hits for the Cabin Bar.

• In Albert Lea Slow Pitch League National Division game, the Elbow Room defeated the Moose 14-1. Orlo Willmert had four hits and Tom Guiney added three more for the Elbow Room. In an American Division game, Queen Products defeated Penney’s 16-7. Darrel Ellertson, Darrel Roemmich and Dale Haukoos each had three hits for Queen’s.

25 years ago: 1993

• Lake Mills defeated Northwood-Kensett 10-9 in an Iowa girls’ softball game. Jamie Thompson and Tracy Chodof led the Bulldogs with three hits each. Brandy Berge had three hits and three RBIs for the Vikings.

• In the Minnesota state track and field tournament, the 4X800 team of Kirsten Nowak, Sara Lindeman, Mollee Ludtke and Kathy Skaar from Albert Lea High School finished in third place.

• The Albert Lea VFW Post 1216 baseball team defeated Waseca 3-2 behind the two hit pitching of Andy Stockinger. Albert Lea had a 4-2 season record and 3-1 in league play.

• The Albert Lea U-16 boys’ soccer team defeated Burnsville 4-1. Nate Jensen scored three goals and Tom Smith one.

10 years ago: 2008

• The Albert Lea VFW swept a double header from the Rochester Knights 9-2 and 12-0. The first game was led by Luke Grossman and Colby Strilaeff with two hits each.

• Winning pitcher Josie Brackey had 15 strikeouts for the Lake Mills softball team in its 2-1 victory over Osage.

• Jordan Krull hit a three-run home run for the Lake Mills baseball team in its 10-3 win over West Hancock.
