50 years ago: 1968

• The Cabin Bar defeated the Moose Club 7-6 in the Albert Lea slow pitch league. Earl Ashpole was the winning pitcher. Roger Butenhoff homered and Larry Olson had three hits in three at bats for the Cabin.

• Results in the Albert Lea women’s softball league included Kristy’s defeating Northside, 10-3. Kristy’s was led by Marge Barber with three hits (including 2 triples) and Rose Pederson with four RBIs. Piggly Wiggly shut out Coast to Coast, 12-0. Winning pitcher Mary Swenson pitched a two-hitter. Chris Dahl had three hits with one home run and Mary Stiles also had three hits. Home Lumber won by one run 7-6 over Cabin Bar. Ardie Williamson and Alice Peterson each had two hits for Home Lumber. Mary Anderson had two hits for Cabin Bar.

 

25 years ago: 1993

• The Albert Lea High School baseball team defeated Apple Valley 11-1 in Section 1AA playoffs. Tom Drasher threw a one-hitter for the win. Dan Willmert hit a three-run homer for the Tigers.

• Melanie Lepp from United South Central won the Section 2A girls’ golf title with a 90 and advanced to the Minnesota state girls’ golf tournament.

• Named to the 1993 All-Big Nine Conference baseball team from ALHS were Reid Olson and Mark Willmert. Receiving honorable mention were Tom Drasher and Dan Willmert.

• Named to the 1993 All-Big Nine Conference softball team from ALHS were Kim Otterson and Julie Mullenbach. Receiving honorable mention were Julie Jensen and Natalie Mattson.

• In Section 2A subsection 1A girls’ track and field USC defeated NRHEG, 159 – 113. Julie Passer won the high jump, 100-yard hurdles and the 300-yard hurdles for the Rebels.

 

10 years ago: 2008

• The Lake Mills softball team defeated Riceville 8-0 and raised its season record to 6-1. Josie Brackey was the winning pitcher and Sabrina Roll had three hits for the Bulldogs.

• The Albert Lea Colonels defeated the Austin Athletics 7-6. Andrew Behnke had three hits and Michael Greibrok pitched the win. 

• Freshman Levi Dahle pitched a shutout for the L.M. baseball team in its 13-0 win over Belmond-Klemme. Brad Midlang hit a grand slam home run for the Bulldogs.
