Interstate 35 lane closures, traffic delays are expected

Interstate 35 motorists will encounter lane closures and traffic delays starting Monday near milepost 30, south of the Hope exit) as crews replace weigh-in-motion sensors, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Sensors on the northbound lanes of I-35 will be replaced in the same location. The new southbound sensors will be relocated 10 to 20 feet north of the existing location. Work is expected to be completed by Wednesday.

The weigh-in-motion system is a series of devices to record axle and gross vehicle weights while a vehicle drives over a measurement site in the road. The weighing process is more efficient for trucks because the weight is measured while the vehicle is in motion on the roadway.
