As many may not know, Albert Lea has formed another Rugby team. This will be the second year now that the rugby team has been in force. Big thanks to Ron and Brittany Eriksmoen, along with Jim Berg for starting this up again. Over the last couple of years, the high school boys and parents have learned more and more about this sport.

It’s fun to run into people out and about to learn they once played rugby back in the ’70s and ’80s here in Albert Lea.

The Freeborn Eagles was formed last year and between 2017-18, they went into the state tournament top seed and placed second at the state rugby tournament both years. Quite an accomplishment Way to go Freeborn Eagles. They also got the “Most Aggressive Defense Team” at an event in Osseo (Saturday 7’s).
