50 years ago: 1968

• Mike Roberts had three hits to lead the Moose to a 14-9 win over Harold’s Bar in an Albert Lea slowpitch league game. The Moose raised their National Division record to 5-3. In another slowpitch game, First Federal defeated Stables 10-8. Bill Erpenbach was the winning pitcher and was 4-4 batting and Dick Godtland added three hits.

• Ken Sibilrud threw a no-hitter for Hartland in a 5-0 win over Mansfield in an Albert Lea Church League softball game. Hartland improved to 4-2 in league play. In a second game, Conger defeated First Lutheran 5-3. Ken Heine was the winning pitcher and also had three hits.

• The Albert Lea American Legion baseball team defeated Fairmont, 7-1. Donn Drommerhausen had three hits, scored four runs and hit a two-run home run.

25 years ago: 1993

• The Albert Lea U-16 girls’ soccer team defeated Inver Grove Heights 2-0 for its first win of the year. Scoring goals for Albert Lea were Lisa Pederson and Aly Haun. Sharing goalie duties were Darcie Gayken and Amy Nygaard.

• The Albert Lea U-14 Division 3 boys’ soccer team defeated Lakeville 4-1. Caleb Flugum scored two goals, Ryan McCormick and Brad Mondeel scored one goal each.

• Albert Lea High graduate Jill Gaetze, a senior at Southwest State University, had a 20-3 record and an earned run average of 1.30.

• The Albert Lea U-12 boys’ soccer team raised its season record to 8-3 after defeating Northfield 4-0. Scoring goals for Albert Lea were Zach Flugum, Mike Cinnes, Seth Schwartz and Brand Plantage.

10 years ago: 2008

• In a pitchers battle, United South Central American Legion-Post 210 defeated Minnesota Lake 2-1. Ned Kalis of USC threw a one-hitter and had 16 strikeouts for the victory. Eli Waters, the losing pitcher, allowed only three hits and had 15 strikeouts.

• In the first round of Class 2A-Region 4 Iowa softball, Lake Mills defeated West Hancock 6-3. eighth-grader Josie Brackey was the winning pitcher for the Bulldogs. Lake Mills season record to date was 24-8.

• Joe Mauer was the first Minnesota Twin starter in the All-Star Game since Tori Hunter in 2002. Also named to the All-Star game were Twins Justin Morneau and Joe Nathan.
