50 years ago: 1968

• In the District-1 Junior American Legion baseball tournament, Albert Lea defeated Waldorf-Pemberton, 4 – 3. Dean Dahl drove in the winning run in the eighth inning for Albert Lea. Glenville-Emmons defeated Waseca 1-0 in the second game. Clark Cipra pitched the shut out for G-E.

• In Church League softball Trinity Lutheran defeated Central Lutheran, 23-11. John Morley led Trinity with a home run, two triples and two doubles.

• Results in the Albert Lea Women’s Softball League included the following: Home Lumber improved to 7-0 in league after defeating Northside Mobile, 11-9. Candy Jorgenson, Carol Colstrup and Lois Fagerquist each had three hits for Home Lumber. Cabin Bar was victorious over Coast to Coast, 20-10. Cabin was led by Debbie Johnson and Sharon Westergaard with four hits each.

• Queen Products raised its record in the American Division of the Albert Lea Slowpitch League to 9-2 after defeating Interstate, 11-8. Darrel Roemmich had three hits and John Zamora and Gary Hoyve each homered.

 

25 years ago: 1993

• Brad Carlson pitched a five-hitter and raised his season record to 4-2 for the Albert Lea VFW Post 447 baseball team in their 5-4 victory over Northfield. Andy Stockinger had three hits, Tim Bennett and Brian Kenis had two hits each for A.L.

• The Albert Lea U14 Division-3 boys’ soccer team finished the regular season undefeated at 10-0-3 after a 2-2 tie with Mankato. Caleb Flugum and Brad Mondeel scored goals for A.L.

• Green Lea’s Minnesota Golf Association Junior team won the regional tournament and advanced to MGA State Tournament. Team members were Ryan Nolander, Phil Schmidt, Dusty Verhey, Kevin Blair and Chris Baas.

 

10 years ago: 2008

• New Richland Post 75 defeated Glenville-Emmons, 10-5. Gavin Schlaak hit a grand slam homer for Post 75.

• The Albert Lea VFW Post 447 defeated Northfield 3-1 behind the one-hit pitching of Aaron Klatt and advanced to the state tournament with a 23-7 record.

• The Albert Lea Post 56 American Legion baseball team defeated Rochester 11-9. Joel Eisenbraun was the winning pitcher. Jared Gavle had three hits and two RBI’s for Post 56.
