Michael Ahern, 1950-2018

A memorial service for Michael “Mike” Ahern will be at noon Thursday at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Kurt Farrell will officiate. Burial will take place at St. Theodore Catholic Cemetery following the service.

Mike passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 17, 2018, while visiting his son in Adrian. He was 68.

Michael Berendt Ahern was born on March 28, 1950, in Minneapolis, to Thomas and Kathleen (Berendt) Ahern. He was raised in the Twin Cities area, and the family often visited Beaver Lake near New Richland during most summers. After high school, Mike attended Mankato State University, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in engineering. His work took him all over the country, living in 28 states throughout his career. Mike was an engineer for companies that aided in speeding up production or finding ways to save companies on production costs. His latest job was working for Sikorsky Helicopters. He lived in Lewisville, Texas. Mike enjoyed many things in life. He liked his work, and he liked that his work sent him all over the country. Mike was talented at making stained glass and wood carving. He was always on the go and was always doing something to stay busy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Kathleen Ahern.

Those left to carry on his legacy include children Sarah (Chris) Lively, Tom (Christy) Ahern and Tim (fiance, Qingyuan) Ahern; grandchildren Sean Lively and Rorie Ahern; siblings Patrick, Cokie and Bridget; as well as many other loving relatives and friends.
