5 things to do this weekend

1. Wine, Wheels and Wildflowers

Three Oak Vineyard and Winery will host an event Saturday titled Wine, Wheels and Wildflowers. It runs from 2 to 8 p.m with activities including a car show, live music and award-winning wine. The Johnny Rodgers Band will perform a variety of music from 3 to 4:30 p.m and from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. There will be food from Victory Inn Catering and wine available to purchase. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy a fun evening at the winery.

 

2. Relay for Life

The Freeborn County Relay for Life will be from 3 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds. The event will kick off with an opening ceremony, followed by a lap of survivors and caregivers. The luminaria ceremony will honor the people who are battling cancer, who have fought cancer in the past or who have lost their lives to cancer. The closing ceremony is meant to commemorate the lives lost due to cancer and support the lives of those currently fighting. There will be a silent auction from 3 to 8 p.m. in the Fairlane Building, featuring many items, including signed guitars from all of the 2018 Freeborn County Fair Grandstand entertainers. During the program there will also be food and entertainment.

 

3. Albert Lea Floats

Albert Lea Floats returns this year for another day of fun outdoor activities. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Gather with the community at Golden Point Launch next to Frank Hall Park to participate in the fun. Activities will include water sports, various children’s activities, along with a variety of food vendors. Kayak, paddle boards and canoe rentals will be free. Come float around and enjoy a day spent with the community. 

 

4. Borderfest

Enjoy a jammed-pack weekend of fun and activities Friday and Saturday in Emmons for the 15th annual Borderfest celebration. Events on Friday include a parade, bake sale, garage sales and a performance by Casey Muessigmann from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Events will continue on Saturday with a karaoke contest, antique tractor show, car show and more. The Mockingbirds Band will perform from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday. Food vendors will be available throughout the weekend.

 

5. Hip-Hop Homecoming

Local hip-hop artists will bring hip-hop music to Albert Lea this weekend. They are set to perform at America’s Best Value Inn’s event center from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday. The event will showcase many artists, including LiMiT, Sota Red, 23L, Leeway, Levi West, DaboFlai, D2 Wavy and Murphy. Doors will open at 7 p.m., and tickets will be $7 in advance and $10 at the door. All ages are welcome to attend, and ages 21 and over will have an available bar.
