Billie Phillips, 1946-2018

Billie Lyn Phillips, 71, of Elk River was suddenly called to rest on Wednesday, July 25, 2018.

Bill was born Aug. 11, 1946, in Adams. In 1964, Bill graduated from Albert Lea High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1964 to 1968. He was proud to be a Vietnam veteran.

Bill was united in marriage to Rita Groff of Albert Lea on Oct. 5, 1968. They had two daughters, Nicole (Matt) Klein and Michelle Anderson-Venema (Greg Venema) of Elk River.

Bill’s passion for technology was utilized in his positions at Control Data, Northern Telecom, ETC, which was a home-based business, and at St. Francis School District 15. He also enjoyed biking, playing tennis, fishing, woodcarving, woodworking, playing various instruments, mastering the bullwhip and collecting knives and rocks. In the last few years he liked playing pool and joyriding in his sports car. Most of all — Bill had a deep love for his Savior, his family and his country.

Bill is survived by his wife, Rita; daughters Nicole (Matt) Klein and Michelle Anderson-Venema (Greg Venema); five granddaughters, Madison, Ava and Jocelyn Klein and Makayla and Paige Anderson; mother-in-law, Janet Groff; brother, Bob (Myra) Phillips; sisters Bonnie Friday and Barri (Roger) Johnson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Yvonne and father-in-law, Gordon Groff.

In lieu of flowers ,the family request memorials be given to Abiding Savior Lutheran Church.
