Fair food preview: Fair stand has something for both fish and meat lovers

I went with a simple meal for my favorite pick this year. I chose the fish and chips, an ordinary meal that was made extraordinary well by Hanson Girls Concessions.

The fish filets were fried to perfection with the perfect ratio of crisp, flaky, golden-brown batter and fish that tastes so fresh, you would think they fileted the fish in the back of the stand.

The aspect of the meal that really put it over the edge for me was the homemade tartar sauce. Coming from someone that puts a minimal amount of tartar on my fish, I could have used this sauce for dipping nearly anything.

If you’re not a fish person, Hanson Girls Concessions has a few other options for you to choose from. They offer three different variations of their signature waffle fries, all with their own unique ingredients.

My favorite was the Cowgirl Fries, which were topped with chicken, bacon and ranch. They also have the Cowboy Fries, which are topped with chicken, cheese, sour cream and salsa; and the Stampede Fries, which are topped with shredded beef, gravy and cheese. You really can’t go wrong picking any of the three.

If you’re in the mood for great fish or a unique version of the classic waffle fries, Hanson Girls Concessions is a stop you need to make.
