Graveside services for Monty Moffitt, 56, of Garretson, South Dakota, will be at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 25 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Albert Lea. Military honors will be accorded by local veterans organizations. Immediately following the service, friends and family will gather at 112 On Broadway. Monty died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2018, at Veterans Affairs Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Monty Marvin Moffitt was born April 22, 1962, in Estherville, Iowa, the son of Russell and Marcia (Winterton) Moffitt. He attended school in Albert Lea, graduating from Albert Lea High School. Monty then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in Connecticut. After his discharge, Monty held various jobs in construction. Over the last several years he enjoyed donating his time to the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Monty especially enjoyed reading and weather watching. In keeping with Monty’s loving and generous spirit, it was his decision to donate his eyes so that others could see.

Monty is survived by his mother, Marcia; brothers Todd (Patricia O’Connell) Moffitt and Adam (Connie) Moffitt; nieces and nephews Benjamin, Justin, Travis and Jacob; great-nephew, Michael; and many other loving family members.

Monty was preceded in death by his father, Russell; and niece, Christa Moffitt.
