The Lake Mills volleyball team traveled to the Central Springs tournament Saturday morning, where they dominated the competition, winning all five matches and taking the tournament crown.

The day included wins over Northwood-Kensett (21-8, 21-7), Rockford (21-7, 21-6), Central Springs (21-15, 21-12), Newman (21-10, 21-12) and Clarksville (21-9, 21-16).

Sophomore Kylie Greenfield led the team with 33 kills on the day and was followed by senior Hannah Hanson with 19 and senior Audrey Casperson with 13. As a team, the Bulldogs had a kill rate of .279.

“Kylie (Greenfield) had a solid day and was putting some balls away today; she was very aggressive.” said head coach Jim Boehmer. “Hannah (Hanson) finished the day well and Audrey (Casperson) was consistent throughout.  These three are leading us offensively.  We need a few more to step up and we will be a different team, a much stronger team.”

At the service line, junior Jessa Gasteiger had 14 aces and senior Kristyn Throne was 34/34 with 13 aces. Hanson was also 100 percent from the line with nine aces and Casperson was 39/40 with four aces.

Despite the strong numbers from those four, Boehmer is still looking for improvement from other players on the team.

“We are a poor serving team and that has to improve,” he said. “We have too many girls that struggle at the serving line to be a threat. Offensively, we continue to struggle to find consistency in a number of positions. We are a skilled team team, but we are not good when we forget to process what is happening on the other side of the net.”

The Bulldogs move to 12-3 on the season and will be back on the court Tuesday when they host Garner-Hayfield-Ventura.
