North Carolina man pleads guilty to criminal sexual conduct

A North Carolina man charged with sexually abusing a 7-year-old girl he knew in July pleaded guilty Monday in Freeborn County District Court.

Joel Callejas Cantor, 25, entered an Alford plea to second-degree criminal sexual conduct. In entering an Alford plea, Cantor asserted innocence but admitted the prosecution had enough evidence to convict him of the crime.

Court documents state Cantor was charged after officers responded to a 911 call July 20 from a woman regarding the alleged sexual assault of her 7-year-old daughter.

She said she came home from work and found the girl with Cantor.

Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 14. Cantor is expected to be sentenced to nine years in prison before being deported.
