The Albert Lea girls’ soccer team saw its season come to an end Wednesday night after a 2-0 loss to Faribault in the first round of the Section 2A tournament.

Earlier in the season, the Tigers and Falcons battled to a 2-2 tie in a regular season match played at Faribault.

Albert Lea was on a hot streak as they entered the postseason, winning three straight matches with shutout wins over Byron, Red Wing and Rochester Mayo, outscoring all three teams 5-0. Unfortunately for Albert Lea, the Tigers were unable to maintain that momentum moving forward.

“Unfortunately, it was not our best game by the team as a whole,” said head coach Laura Wangen. “We had a few chances, but were unable to capitalize on them.”

Wangen also thanked her two seniors this season, Alexis Rothmeier and Alexis Palomo.

Albert Lea will return with plenty of potential next season, as many of its players will have multiple years of varsity experience.

The Tigers finish the season with a 7-7-2 record, a slight improvement on last season, in which they finished 7-8.
