Mildred Allen, 1920-2018

Memorial services for Mildred A. Allen, 98, of Albert Lea will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. The Rev. Kent Otterman will officiate. Interment will be at Alden Cemetery. Millie died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, at Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea.

Mildred A. Allen was born May 31, 1920, in Medo Township, Blue Earth County to John and Augusta (Weigelt) Schmidt. She was born 10th of 14 children. She attended school in Waldorf through the eighth grade. Mildred and two sisters formed a trio and performed country music. She played the harmonica and loved to dance.

On Nov. 13, 1939, she was united in marriage to Orley Allen. Orley died in 1963.

Between raising her children, Mildred worked in a canning factory and at Banquet Foods in Wells. She liked to paint ceramics.

Millie is survived by her son, Albert (Susan) Allen; daughters Marlene (Randy) Johnson, Florence (Donald) Hauge and LaVonne (David) Nelson; eight grandchildren, Carol (Ryan) Linde, Michael Allen, Kelly (Dan) Matz, Jason Erickson, Trevis Erickson, Sherri (Fred) Trapp, Michelle (Jeff ) Rayman and Dan Nelson; 11 great-grandchildren, Dalton and Katie Bradley, Angelina Star, Taylor and Garret Matz, Haley, Jordan and Tyler Trapp, John Hauge, and Chase and Casey Rayman; three great-great-grandchildren, Jadyn and Hunter Hauge, and Braylon Rayman; sister, Virginia Smith; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Orley; 12 siblings; grandsons Larry Hauge and baby boy Nelson; and great-grandson, Dylan Hauge.
