Sons of Norway Normana Lodge No. 52 of District 1 in Albert Lea announced the winner of a $1,200 scholarship — Ellen Ahlness of White Bear Lake.

According to a press release, Ahlness is attending the University of Washington in Seattle. She is seeking a doctorate to become a Scandinavian studies professor with a double major in international relations.

These scholarship funds were given to the local lodge by the late Shirley M. Bartholomew, Bertha Weiks and other members and friends of Sons of Norway, Normanna Lodge No. 52.

Arlene M. Matson has been the chairwoman of the scholarship committee for the past 18 years, during which time $22,000 in scholarships have been rewarded.
