Mary Malakowsky, 1945-2018

Mary Kathryn Malakowsky, 72, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018, at Owatonna Hospital.
She was born Dec. 29, 1945, in Duluth, the daughter of Walter and Bernice (Boeder) Kuehn. She grew up in Duluth and graduated from Duluth East High School in the class of 1964. She continued her education at beauty school in Duluth. On July 22, 1967, she married James Malakowsky in Duluth. The couple lived in Duluth, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and settled in Owatonna in 1969. Mary was a homemaker and also worked outside of the home in nursing, as a telephone operator and a school bus driver for 13 years.
She was an avid reader, enjoyed museums, unique food, antiques and traveling trips to the casino, Duluth, Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Mackinac Island in Michigan.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, supporter of the Owatonna Arts Center and a past president of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She is survived by her husband, James Malakowsky, of Owatonna; children Julie (and Bruce) Domino of Nisswa and Daniel (and Kristin) Malakowsky of Grand Rapids, Michigan; grandchildren Austin and Briston Domino and Christopher, James, Theodore and William Malakowsky; brother, Walter (and Sally) Kuehn of Minneapolis; and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Bernice.
A memorial visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna and at the church one hour prior to the service. A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna. The Rev. Amanda Weinkauf will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date.
