Tigers dominate over Packers

The Albert Lea wrestling team hosted Austin Thursday night in its first home dual of the season.
The Tigers had no trouble dealing with the Packers, taking the dual handily 66-18.
The first six matches resulted in forfeit wins for the Tigers. Eighth-grader Alvin Wasmoen at 106 pounds, senior Caleb Miller at 113 pounds, eighth-grader Cole Glazier at 120 pounds, freshman Cam Davis at 126 pounds, senior Nic Cantu at 132 pounds and freshman Henry Eggum at 138 pounds all received a win putting the Tigers up 36-0 without a match wrestled.
Eighth-grader Derrick McMillian picked up a win at 145 pounds, pinning his opponent just 1:33 into the first round.
Sophomore Caleb Talamantes received Albert Lea’s seventh forfeit win at 152 pounds and giving Albert Lea an insurmountable 48-0 lead.
Sophomore Griffin Studier wrestled at 160 pounds in the first match of the night that would get into the second round. Studier got stuck in an unfavorable position about a minute in the second round and was pinned, giving Austin its first win of the night.
Sophomore Josiah Hedensten got the Tigers back on the winning track with a pinfall victory at 170 pounds, picking up the fall at 1:30 in the first round.
Senior Zach Glazier took care of business at 182 pounds earning a pinfall just over a minute into the first period, his 186th career win.
Senior Brady Nielsen went into the second period before pinning his opponent at 2:25.
The Tigers had an open weight class at 220 pounds, giving the Packers their second win of the evening.
In the final match of the night, senior Elmer Diaz Noriega fell inthe second period after getting rolled into a pinfall.
The Tigers move to 8-2 on duals this season and will be back on the mat Friday night when they head to Belle Plaine. They will then head to Fargo, North Dakota, for the Rumble on the Red Tournament on Thursday.
