The Albert Lea boys’ hockey team hosted Faribault on Tuesday night looking to extend its win streak in the new year.

The Tigers dominated the first and second periods, leaving the Falcons in a big deficit to start the third, before ending the game with a 7-2 blowout win.

Senior Carson Goodell started the scoring just 20 seconds into the first period off an assist from senior Cole Wentzel. Goodell added another goal only three minutes later, this time on an assist from sophomore Spencer Clark. The Tigers added one more goal before the end of the period off the stick of junior Cully Larson, assisted by junior Owen Zelenak.

Already up 3-0 entering the second period, Albert Lea’s Blake Ulve put up a goal just over two minutes into play. Faribault finally got on the board eight minutes into the second period, but the lead was already too large. Ulve added his second goal and junior Campbell Cichosz added two more for Albert Lea before the period was over. Ulve’s goal was assisted by sophomores Isaiah VanRyswyk and Markus Dempewolf, and Cichosz’s goal was assisted by sophomore Logan Barr and senior Jack Edwin.

The Tigers put up another goal in the third period for good measure, scored by VanRyswyk.

The Tigers climb to 7-6 at the halfway point of the regular season. They will be back in action Thursday night when they host the Scarlets of Mankato West.
