Letter: If Trump can abuse his authority, other presidents may, too

It seems everyone is talking about building a wall on the Texas-Mexico border. Contractors have figured that it would cost $2 trillion to build that wall the way Trump wants it. They say it couldn’t be finished before the year 2043. In polls taken, 60 percent of the American people and myself think the wall will be completely worthless. Some of the Republicans talk about people putting up privacy fences around their house and compare that to the wall. Anyone with a little bit of common sense knows that any grade school kid can figure out how to get over one of these fences. The argument isn’t whether we should build a wall or not. It is whether we should allow Trump to abuse his authority by shutting down this country to bully his way on something he couldn’t get through Congress. If we let him get by with this, then the next Democrat president can — if he feels like it, too — abuse his authority and get his way by something that wouldn’t make it through Congress — for example, if he thought every AR15 should be confiscated. There are just as many Democrats who own these firearms as there are Republicans. So, whether you are a Democrat or Republican, you should stand up against Trump trying to dictate and not legislate this wall. This is just another sign of a wannabe dictator. I am still bragging. I didn’t vote for Trump.
