Duplicate Bridge
Nine teams played Duplicate Bridge on Jan 8. Winners were Larry Crowe and Bill Momsen, first place; Edna Knobbe and Rick Stroup,, second place; Joyce Crowe and Millie Seiver, third place; and Gail and Ray Schmidt, fourth place.
Eleven teams played Duplicate Bridge on Jan. 9. Winners were Joyce Crowe and Millie Seiver and Larry Crowe and Jim Fisher, tied for first; Dave Ring and Orrin Roisen and Loren Cleland and Bud Higgins, tied for third; and Gail and Ray Schmidt, fifth place.
Duplicate Bridge is played at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and at noon on Wednesdays. Players come from Adams, Austin, Albert Lea, Rose Creek, Northwood and Mason City. All bridge players are welcome to come and play. Those who need a partner can call 437-2750.
Women Veterans of Freeborn County
The regularly scheduled meeting of the Women Veterans of Freeborn County met Jan. 2 at American Legion Post 56 in Albert Lea.
Women veterans present included Pat Johannsen, Sandy Maiden, Julie Hamson, Barb Babb, Ruth Perry, Deanna Luedtke and Judi Olson.
The group shared stories on holiday and family events.
Joann Paczkowski is in the hospital and is not doing well. Maiden and Luedtke made plans to visit her.
The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs Conference is scheduled for March 23 at Maplewood Community Center. The group will decided next meeting about who will attend.
Luedtke read several articles of interest, including “And Then the Darkness Came” from AARP magazine.
The next meeting of the Women Veterans of Freeborn County will be at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 6 at the American Legion in Albert Lea. All women military veterans in Freeborn County are encouraged to join the group for an informal lunch, discussion and camaraderie. For more information, call Luedtke at 641-425-3482.
