Carmen Meyer, 1924-2019

Funeral services for Carmen Opal Meyer will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea. The Rev. Don Rose will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Kiester at a later date.
Carmen died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019, at Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth in Rochester. She was 94.
Carmen was born Dec. 29, 1924, in Iowa, the daughter of LeRoy and Ida (Skjervheim) Schroader. She graduated from Kiester High School in 1943 and received her teaching degree from Mankato State University.
Carmen was united in marriage to Vernell Meyer on July 11, 1946, in Kiester. She taught country school for many years, then public school in Blooming Prairie, Manchester and Albert Lea.
Carmen enjoyed her teaching career, cooking, shopping, polka music and playing the piano. Special memories were times spent with her family.
She is survived by her daughters Verlayne MacKay (Dave) of Owatonna and Verliss Keller-Miller (Mike) of Rochester; five grandchildren, John MacKay, Jennifer MacKay, Julie MacKay, Richard (Angie) Keller and Anthony (Michele) Keller; five great-grandchildren, Ashley, Amanda, Austin, Matthew and Kaylee Keller; sister, Marilyn Moe, of Albert Lea; and sister-in-law, Nordean Fox, of Austin.
Carmen was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters Lila (Larry) Hessel and Gloria (Gary) Walk; brothers Marvin Schroader, Marlin (Marilyn) Schroader and VirGene Schroader; and sister-in-law, Priscilla Mutschler.
