Tyler Julson: Postseason is upon us, if Mother Nature can ease up a bit

Notes from the Sports Desk by Tyler Julson

OK weather, that’s enough now. I don’t want to ask for too much too fast, so if we could just get the temperature to be at a consistent 40 degrees, that would be fantastic.

Especially since we’re winding down the regular seasons in all of the winter sports, it’s getting difficult to get all these makeup games in before the section tournaments. Maybe I’m just getting antsy for the section brackets to come out, but I feel like all this snow makes the time drag on.

One thing the weather failed to stop was the state wrestling tournament down in Des Moines. Lake Mills participated in the dual tournament, where they came out in fifth place. Four more Bulldogs will compete in the individual tournament starting Thursday.

Hopefully the teams in Minnesota can duplicate Lake Mills’ success when their postseasons start Thursday night. Albert Lea will host Faribault, while United South Central and NRHEG hit the road, traveling to Maple River and Medford, respectively. I’m really looking forward to the state tournament this year.

One area team has already ended its season. The girls’ hockey team lost its second-round game Saturday, bur prior to that game, it won its first postseason game in eight years. With only one senior leaving the team next season, this team will be one that could make some waves.

The boys’ hockey team is likely exhausted from all the makeup games it has had to play over the past week. The team has even had to make up a makeup game. Hopefully all this game experience will be an advantage when sections start Tuesday.

Piled on with the fact that it’s a pretty slow time in professional sports, the lack of games over the past week has exhausted my list of things to touch on. It is the week of the Daytona 500. I could talk about that, but all you NASCAR fans would be disappointed with how little I know about racing.

Football, please come back soon.
