Winter weather moving back into the area

The next wave of winter weather is expected to begin moving through the area today, according to the National Weather Center.
One to 3 inches of snow is expected today, while forecasts show the potential for heavy snow Monday night through Tuesday in much of southeast Minnesota.
According to the National Weather Service, Albert Lea has a high chance of receiving 6 inches or more of snow. Directly to the east of the city, the chances increase for larger amounts of snow, possibly as much as 8 to 12 inches.
The snow is expected to begin late Monday afternoon, with the heaviest snow falling late Monday night through Tuesday morning. Snow should taper off Tuesday night.
The Weather Service states snowfall could cause major impacts to travel, particularly during the Tuesday morning commute. Winds will increase Tuesday afternoon, leading to areas of blowing and drifting snow.
Additional chances for accumulating snow will return Thursday and Friday.
